Over the 35 or more years I have been in private practice, I have cultivated a passion for encouraging peoples' insight and personal growth. I am skilled at integrating the perspectives of self psychology, intersubjectivity, and relational systems theory according to the needs of my clients. Working primarily with adult individuals and couples, I help others address life concerns and assist them in confronting the difficulties of forming and maintaining connections to others. This includes concerns as varied as identity and career uncertainty, trauma, aging, separation and divorce, and bereavement and loss.

I view therapy as a deepening conversation between myself and the person or persons who have come to see me. My own training and experience are of substantial importance in this dialogue, and I willingly share my ideas and observations. I also find it essential to listen carefully to my clients, seeking to understand each person's distinctive emotional and behavioral style, as well as those issues of culture, race, family and gender that may be influencing them. The present is important, and so is the past as it comes alive in the present, influencing and restricting individuals' life choices and interactions. The goal is acceptance of self, greater freedom from constraints, and resilience in the face of challenge.
